What do we do when we aren’t feeling well?
How is it that we don’t get hit hard with stuff going around?
We get a lot of messages about this & sometimes we just don't remember all the things we reach for when we need support. Well, we got a reminder...

This cold that’s going around has been gnarly for some people, but not for us! I mean, it's no fun to feel "under the weather", but I can honestly say that we know what to do & it works! When something is going around, most of the time, we dont catch it at all... on the rare occasion that we DO feel our bodies fighting something, we know what to do. We get mildly sick & the duration is always very short. We decided to record what we consume while fighting a cold.


Sharing ALL the things -- 24 hours of healing... this is how we do it. ❤️

As usual, we always find the best deals on any products we use, groceries, etc & we pass that info & savings on to our friends & family... and of course our followers online! We include links or resources to the best deals on most of the products and groceries we buy! We often have a coupon code or discount to share & we only affiliate with businesses we've researched and align with...
they've got to have integrity! 


We are also working on a new shopping guide… we budgeted healthy foods for our family of 7, on one income & got supplements and all the things, since 2007.
We love helping people find their way to a healthier lifestyle for their families.

A little backstory:

I’ve shared before that Erin was a pharmacy tech for 8 years and we were both on multiple prescriptions and not the healthiest in our early 20’s. We started waking up after seeing the inside of the pharmaceutical industry… anyhoo, point being that we were not always natural minded people! In fact, we were the ones making fun of those people. 🤦🏽‍♀️

So, since 2007, we’ve been researching ingredients and natural health & we’ve come a long way! Along our journey, our friends and family wanted to know more and were always asking us what products we used and what foods we ate… that’s why we created our blog Roots Of Integrity! We could just send people there & it really helped so many find their way. 🤍✨

I can honestly say that we do not have any pharmaceuticals in our medicine cabinet. We do not take anything of the sort, because we have found that natural, holistic ingredients simply work better & we don't have to worry about any potential harm to our bodies! We've found better options & we wont ever go back to conventional, pharmaceutical based options. Holistic solutions have come through for us for so many things & we truly feel empowered and prepared.

God created so many helpful things for us in nature.
Over the years, we’ve simply forgotten… part of our mission and purpose is to help us remember.

This post is packed with info!

We want you to know, if you're just starting out with a more natural/holistic way of life, this might seem like a lot to absorb! When we began researching & switching over our products, there were many things we simply threw out (or returned if it had a satisfaction guarantee). We weren't well & we just didn't want to continue using products and eating foods that were contributing to that. We realized there was a whole lot we could do without... we really don't need THAT many products! We simplified everything, which was SO incredibly freeing... there were so many products & foods that we just walked right by because we knew they were full of toxic ingredients. Shopping became so much faster and easier. There are so many aisles you just don't even need to walk down. 
We want you to know, you CAN do this.
Every purchase is a choice, you're either supporting your health, or you aren't. You can feel good about what you're eating & the products you're using. You'll feel better & see the results of your choices.

-- Tips when fighting illness --

LIMIT sugar as much as possible (alcohol as well!). This is SO important! You can literally sabotage your body that is trying so hard to heal… Did you know sugar prevents white blood cell production?
Note: I will say, a hot toddy with fresh lemon juice, honey, hot water & a tiny bit of whiskey can do you good!

Focus on consuming nutrient dense foods. Foods rich in amino acids, vitamins & minerals:
Healthy protein rich foods… opt for pasture raised eggs, meats and dairy.
Broth… especially bone broth!
Fruits & Veggies
​Fermented foods
Healthy fats & oils.
Spices & herbs
Garlic & onions are SO good for you!

Hydration is so important! Staying hydrated will help your body to flush toxins & support your lymph flow! Healthy, toxic free drinks like teas, healthy electrolyte drinks (Recharge is our fave), Axio, kombucha, water, etc.

Get outside! Getting out into fresh air does so much good... a sunny day is a bonus! If you can go on a short walk outside and get some movement in, it will really help boost your endorphins & immune system + lower cortisol levels!

Supplements to support your body --​ Vitamin C is an essential macronutrient & studies show Vitamin C deficiency results in impaired immunity and higher susceptibility to infections. Supplementing with vitamin c is so important… we find food based vitamins (versus synthetic) to be most effective.
Quercetin is another big one! This is a bioflavonoid with so many benefits affecting inflammation & immunity. There is evidence that vitamin C and quercetin taken together exerts a synergistic antiviral action... amazing.
We found a supplement called QBC by Solaray that contains these two immune boosting nutrients and it works so well! If you're already taking vitamin c, Solaray offers quercetin as a standalone supplement too! 

There are other supplements we find helpful as well, but if you're just starting out, QBC is so helpful and on it’s own has proven to work very well! You can pick this up at Natural Grocers, The Solaray Amazon store, or at Solaray online (Save 15% with code: rootsofintegrity). They even have a chewable version.

This supplement is SO helpful! It contains Hops, Turmeric, Bromelain, White Willow, Papain & Ginger. Research those ingredients & you'll understand. ;)
-- Inner Defense -- I only took this once when I felt the beginning of a very sore throat. We are pretty conservative with this one, it's strong & effective with Clove, Oregano, Thyme, Lemongrass, Lemon, Eucalyptus, Rosemary & Cinnamon essential oils in a capsule. I could write a whole blogpost on this one.
-- Thieves EO -- I like to put 1-2 drops on my tongue and get a sip of water and gargle when I have a sore throat. It instantly feels better & I 100% believe it helps my body fight the thing creating the issue. Our daughter did the same thing & our sore throats were GONE.
-- EO Roll-On -- I chose oils based on my symptoms & knowledge of the current "thing" going around: Base of Ortho Ease Massage Oil cuz it’s full of so many great eo’s + I added a few drops of: thyme, cypress, myrrh, lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, frankincense. I rolled it on my throat, neck, jaw... anywhere that felt sore/sick throughout the night and day. I used the wooden massage knob to rub it in instead of getting oils on my hands (I love this thing!).

Studies suggest that Red Light Therapy can modulate the activity of immune cells, such as macrophages and neutrophils. This modulation can enhance the immune system's ability to recognize and eliminate pathogens. Red Light Therapy has been shown to improve our first line of immune defense.

Morning...

I woke up & had a cup of Backporch coffee with raw milk... I love my coffee.
About an hour later, I made this chocolate protein shake & took supplements morning supplements. Also, the mangoes.... we love them. They usually have them at Costco (organic ataulfo mangoes). *If you're not going to Costco for organic fruits & veggies + other healthy food options, you are missing out. We save so much with Costco + Azure Standard + Grocery Outlet.

Keeping nutrients up by starting my morning with a protein shake. I love this one, grass fed organic milk + chocolate is always my fave. I added maca for adaptogenic benefits (helps with stress, energy & more) + colostrum (I'm sampling dif brands right now & will be sharing more soon!). Colostrum is nutrient dense, supporting immune + gut health & so much more... For some reason adding the maca & colostrum to this chocolate shake makes it taste like an actual roasted marshmallow smore. So good!

Best Deals:
Shakes: Costco.com if they aren't in stock at the warehouse OR Grocery Outlet when they have them it's an incredible savings!
Maca: Grocery Outlet & Azure Standard.

Colostrum: Costco has the Zena Colostrum & we are trying it now! My research is showing that Cowboy (15% off with our link!) & Armra are more nutrient dense for sure, but if you cant afford those brands, I'd get Zena. (Zena's IgG content is 15-25% & the others are more like 40%, so it is a big difference. Research IgG & colostrum to learn more.)

Supplements... QBC; D3+; Raw Vitamin B Complex; Female Herbal Hormone Blend --
Solaray QBC is quercetin, vitamin c & bromelain. This is our fave for fighting off things... it works SO well. We take once a day preventatively or twice if we're feeling unwell. THIS STUFF IS SO LEGIT! I am telling you, everyone that takes it agrees. It works!
d3+ by LifeVantage is THE BEST vitamin d we have found. vitamin K2, magnesium, and calcium, boron & horsetail extract. 
Garden of Life Vitamin Code Raw B Complex - We've been taking this one for years & I especially find it important & very helpful. All of our supplements are food based, which is very important. B Complex is so good & necessary. I dont have any discounts for Garden Of LIfe, but I've found the best deals at Natural Grocers & Amazon (just be sure it's direct from the Garden Of Life Amazon store, linked here. You dont want to waste your money or risk your health with fakes!)

Solaray Female Hormone This one is new to me, I've been taking Femigen By YL & found this to be similar... I've seen a lot of excellent reviews and I love the ingredients. Everything really works together in our bodies & I've found healthy hormones have a relationship with immune health too.

​I must note that before we changed our life, sicknesses like this one would knock us completely down and there is NO way I would have been in the kitchen making food for everyone.

Diffusing oils 24/7. This is in our living room.

In our bedroom... makes such a difference not sleeping with dry air!

Air quality is important!

Did you know that dry air contributes to illness & exacerbates things like asthma? Dry air makes virus-sized particles more likely to spread—which is why a home’s humidity level can strongly influence whether or not airborne viruses linger in our air.
So yeah, diffusing is a really, really good idea! I realized that before we caught this thing, we hadn't been running our diffusers for a couple of days & we had our grandson over who happened to be fighting this thing. Lesson learned. Run the diffusers!
Diffusers are different... quality diffusers humidify + atomize + purify the air. Their ultrasonic technology breaks up water and essential oils into millions of microparticles, dispersing them into the air... it's literally like creating air quality you'd find in the forest amongst the plants & trees... amazing.
Be sure you're using essential oils that are quality brands without scary warnings on the labels (those warnings are a red flag that the oil isn't great).

Also, be sure to check & change your home air filters! These can be a source of allergens, dust & poor air quality! Super important to have a fresh clean air supply in your home! Old dirty air filters contribute to illness, asthma & even higher energy bills! Worth it to put them on autoship & maintain!

I made my Axio after lunch... it has green tea extract, B vitamins, quercetin, pine bark extract, DMAE, L-Theanine, magnesium... no artificial junk in it & it tastes like strawberry koolaid. It comes in other flavors as well... We love it. This helps with energy, brain function (like alert, positive mood, memory) +immune health because of the antioxidants & cellular protection. It's like a body + brain boost without any yuck. (You can check it out on their website, there's a lot of good info in more detail.)

 IbuActin by Solaray - One more dose of this... helped my head SO much. Within 20ish minutes I was feeling pretty normal. 
This supplement is SO helpful! It contains Hops, Turmeric, Bromelain, White Willow, Papain & Ginger. Research those ingredients & you'll understand. ;)

Kombucha! We get this one at Costco. It's a bit too mellow, so I like to add more apple cider vinegar to mine & it's perfect.

Bedtime...

Sleepytime Tea with 1/2 tsp magnesium (CALM brand from Costco) + honey.
Second dose of QBC (I would have taken this a little earlier, but forgot... now is better than nothing.)
Melatonin & RutaVala EO -- We take just one tablet of this melatonin... put it under our tongue & it melts. We do not take melatonin regularly. Research shows this isn't a great idea. So, we do take it if we need help resetting our circadian rhythm (sleep/wake cycle) AND if we are fighting something & need to ensure a good restful sleep. Young Living makes a supplement called Immupro that we actually like much better for this, but we ran out. It contains immune boosting things and melatonin & it works SO well. 
I do think chewable or melt in your mouth types of melatonin seem to work really well & I usually fall asleep within just a few minutes. I've seen some time release types & I'm curious, but have not tried them.

We ate well, we took our supplements, we hydrated & we rested as much as we could & we were over this thing so fast!
